A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy who died after being stabbed in the neck had only recently moved from south Wales to Huddersfield, police have confirmed.

Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, a Syrian national, died in hospital following the incident, which happened in the town centre on Thursday (Apr 3).

West Yorkshire Police were called to Ramsden Street at around 2:45pm after reports of a stabbing. The teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries but later died.

On Saturday (Apr 5), detectives revealed that Ahmad had recently relocated to Huddersfield from south Wales. Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are leading the investigation.

A man has been charged with murder. Alfie Franco, 20, of The Park, Kirkburton, appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning. He was also charged with possession of a knife in a public place and has been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on April 8.

Two other people – a 20-year-old woman from Huddersfield and a 22-year-old man from Kirkburton – were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

In a statement, police said: “Officers from the Homicide And Major Enquiry Team are working to support the victim’s family and are continuing to investigate the fatal stabbing on Ramsden Street, Huddersfield on April 3.”

Tributes have been paid online to the teenager. One woman wrote: “My heart goes out to the family and friends of this poor young boy and to all who had to witness this horror.” Another commented: “So heartbreaking, sincere condolences to his family.”
