A 54-YEAR-OLD Aberystwyth man posed as a child in the hope of having sex with a youngster, a judge has heard today (Dec 2).

David John Williams, aged 54, set up a fake identity to make contact with children over the internet.

Williams, of Corporation Street, appeared via video link before Judge Keith Thomas at Swansea Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He admitted attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child between October 23 and October 30 of this year.

Williams, who is being held in custody at Swansea prison, also admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order imposed by Ceredigion magistrates for previous offending.

The court heard that Williams had been convicted of a similar offence when he made internet contact with a “child” who turned out to be a police officer trying to catch paedophiles.

Judge Thomas said Williams must have been on licence from prison for that offence when he committed the latest.

Williams will be sentenced on December 23 after a probation officer has prepared a report into his background.

Judge Thomas told Williams not to think that anything other than a prison sentence would be the outcome.
