DYFED-Powys police have said that they are going to create 30 new police constable posts over the next 18 months in a bid to help frontline policing.
They said that difficult times mean difficult decisions and say it is right that the police continue to do their bit to help tackle the national deficit.Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon said:
“The public may be reassured that frontline policing – putting the public first – is a priority across Dyfed-Powys. Improvements being made across the region illustrate that.
“The Chief Constable is creating 30 brand new police constable posts over the next 18 months, the public of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Powys finds it increasingly easy to access police officers and the force is now working more closely with other organisations.
“As the man who sets policing priorities, I’m confident there are more positive changes to come. As a guardian of public finances I’m determined that every penny that comes through my office is spent wisely.
“The radical reform of policing means that we have a great opportunity to think carefully and creatively about how services are delivered to today’s public in the way they require.
“Our budgeting process in Dyfed Powys has included predicted falls in central grants so we already knew we’d have to do more for less.
“The Provisional Police Funding Announcement by Damian Green does make our budgeting somewhat more challenging than anticipated but I’m pleased that we can now move ahead with the process.”
