Crime and disorder assessment

policeRESIDENTS are being encouraged to take part in an assessment of crime and disorder related issues within the county that is currently being carried out by the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership.

In 1998, The Crime and Disorder Act placed a duty on Local Authorities and the Police to form a partnership to reduce crime and disorder in their communities.

The Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership is comprised of representatives from the County Council, Police and a representative from the Dyfed-Powys Police & Crime Panel, Fire & Rescue Service and the Fire & Rescue Authority, National Probation Service, Wales Community Rehabilitation Company, Hywel Dda University Health Board, Public Health Wales, Youth Justice Service, and the Dyfed-Powys Area Planning Board for Substance Misuse.

The purpose of the assessment is to provide knowledge and understanding of community safety problems that will inform and enable your Community Safety Partnership to:

  • Understand the patterns, trends and shifts relating to Crime & Disorder and Substance Misuse.
  • Set clear and robust priorities.
  • Develop activity that is driven by reliable intelligence and meets the needs of the local community.
  • Deploy resources effectively and present value for money.
  • Undertake annual reviews and plan activity based on the clear understanding of the issues and priorities.

Miss Bronwen Morgan, Chief Executive of Ceredigion County Council and Chair of the Ceredigion Community Safety Partnership stated:

“This consultation will provide an excellent opportunity for the public to play their part in shaping future policing and community safety priorities for Ceredigion and to raise any specific issues or concerns they may have in their communities.

“This approach reflects our ongoing commitment to the people of Ceredigion to deal with important issues such as community safety and the challenges faced, in a transparent and democratic manner to ensure that we have fully identified needs of our communities in terms of Crime and Disorder.”

“The findings from the consultation will also be utilised to inform the Public Services Board’s Single Integrated Plan and assist us in putting forward our local priorities to the Police and Crime Commissioner for consideration in connection with his Regional Police and Crime Plan.”

The Partnership has distributed a number of questionnaires throughout the County to a wide variety of Organisations and Individuals.

Take part in the assessment by completing the online questionnaire, which can be found on www.ceredigion.gov.uk/crimeanddisordersurvey.

The consultation will run until 1 February 2017.
