Lifeboat tasked to yacht in difficulty

ON THURSDAY (Jun 9) the sailboat ‘Meanderer’ was struggling to make headway against strong south-westerly winds during its passage from Holyhead to Milford Haven.

Fishguard RNLI was tasked to head to the yacht which was 15 miles north-west of Fishguard by HM Coastguard after the two crew onboard the yacht radioed for assistance.

The all-weather lifeboat, with a full volunteer crew, launched at 12:30 HRS and once on scene one lifeboat crew member went aboard the 28-foot yacht and established that the owner was extremely fatigued and he was transferred onto the lifeboat. A tow line was attached to the yacht and the lifeboat then commenced the slow tow back to Fishguard harbour arriving at 18:00 HRS and the yacht was tied up to a harbour mooring. After two days laid-up the yacht continued its passage.
