Two men in custody after burglaries

two remandedTWO men have been remanded in custody after being charged with conspiring to commit 22 burglaries between December 12, 2013 and January 14, 2014.

This comes after Dyfed Powys Police commenced an investigation into an unusual increase in dwelling burglaries that was experienced over the Christmas and New Year Period across the counties of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

Detectives identified that a car travelling on false number plates could be attributed to a number of the incidents and as such sought to trace the vehicle.

This led to a significant police operation in the Tregaron area of Ceredigion on January 8 when two males abandoned the vehicle following an approach by police community support officers.

As a direct result of that operation two males of Irish origin appeared before Llanelli Magistrates Court. Both males were remanded into custody to appear again on the January 24.

Detective Inspector Richard Yelland from Pembrokeshire CID said:

“The direct invasion of people’s homes leaves victims of this type of crime with an immeasurable sense of vulnerability that they will have to live with day to day.

“The Dyfed Powys Police area remains one of the safest places to reside in England and Wales with these incidents being rare. This can often make us vulnerable to criminals passing through our area. I would continue to urge residents to consider the security of their homes and contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Teams for advice”.

Police in Pembrokeshire would like to thank the public for their support and cooperation during the operation.
