RHA’s National Coach Week roadshow arrived in Pontyclun, South Wales on Monday (April 4), to highlight the important role that coaches play in regional tourism and the Welsh economy.

The ‘Coin, Coal and Cheers’ event profiled the efforts of three attractions, based outside of Cardiff, which have combined resources to offer a package for group visits and who are encouraging coach travel as a more sustainable means of transport.

RHA were joined by representatives from The Royal Mint Experience, A Welsh Coal Mining Experience and Hensol Castle Distillery as well as Visit Wales and the Confederation of Passenger Transport.

The roadshow forms part of National Coach Week which takes place from April 1-8. The campaign aims to raise the profile of the coach industry, its workers, and to showcase the vital but often overlooked role that coaches play in our lives.

Andrew Warrender, Operations Manager for the Coach Sector at RHA, said: “Today’s event has been a great opportunity to highlight the role that coaches play in tourism, and to celebrate three top visitor attractions which are working together to accommodate coaches and group visits.”

Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, said: “Group and coach travel plays an important part in our visitor economy. This initiative by the three attractions makes it easier for people to plan their trips – while also using sustainable modes of transport. Coach travel can also help us with our aim to introduce people to lesser-known areas of Wales and to travel all year round. Together we can hopefully grow the numbers of people embracing coach travel to enjoy more day visits and holidays here.”

National Coach Week comes after the RHA launched a new membership for coach operators last year. It forms a permanent part of the association’s annual schedule alongside events such as National Lorry Week and the Commercial Vehicle Show.
