Police warning following burglaries

Welsh-policePOLICE in south Ceredigion are asking anyone renovating properties or carrying out building work to be vigilant and look after their property, following a number of recent burglaries.

These incidents have taken place at unoccupied and secluded properties under renovation, which have been left insecure with power tools and other equipment in and around them.

Power tools and other building equipment are an attractive find for thieves, as they can be easily and quickly sold on, and are difficult to trace. Being left out overnight or over weekends in insecure properties makes them an even easier target for criminals. The advice from police is this:

  • If you’re renovating a property, make it as secure as possible overnight and during periods where no work is taking place, boarding up doors and windows and using good quality locks.
  • Remove any power tools and other equipment that you can to another secure location.
  • If you have to leave equipment, make sure it’s secure and out of sight, don’t leave it out as an advert to thieves.
  • Think about installing CCTV and security lighting to deter criminals.

If you witness any suspicious activity around your property or another nearby, call Police on 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergencies. For more info on keeping your property secure, visit www.dyfed-powys.police.uk or contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
