GWENT POLICE have confirmed that a man has died after being hit by a train on or near Pye Corner station in Newport.
The incident took place at 6.53am on Thursday (Nov-03), according to the emergency services, and has led to the disruption of all train services on the effected route for the foreseeable future.
“British Transport Police”, a spokesperson said: “were called to the line near Pye Corner railway station at 6.53am this morning, November 3, following reports of a casualty on the tracks”.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
15 more train services cancelled today due to incident
15 more train services in Wales have been cancelled following the earlier incident at Pye Corner station. Transport for Wales has confirmed that several services will not run due to the disruption.
