A HOSPITAL Consultant is standing trial for allegedly sexually assaulting staff and patients over a 20-year period.
Cardiff Crown Court heard how Channarayapatna Krishna is accused of groping female patients during their medical examinations.
Krishna, a former consultant at Royal Gwent Hospital and University Hospital Llandough is also accused of forcing a colleague up against a wall and kissing her against her will.
The court heard how the alleged incidents happened between 1996 and 2017.
58-year-old Krishna asked female patients to remove their shirts and bras before groping their breasts, the court heard.
The consultant is facing 12 allegations of sexual assault by seven different woman.
Prosecuting, Matthew Cobbe, told the court: “The patients were left uncomfortable, upset, and bewildered by his examination and we will hear that several recognised that the examination had been obviously unnecessary.
“But it is the prosecution’s case that he was a doctor and he got away with it until 2017.”
Whilst working at The Royal Gwent Hospital, the court heard how Krishna is alleged to have asked a patient to remove her blouse and unhook her bra, when the defendant touched and rubbed her breasts in a circular motion.
During his time at University Hospital Llandough, Mr Cobbe told the court how Krishna allegedly told a female patient to remove all clothing from the waist up so he could examine her with a stethoscope.
Despite the patients receiving the all clear from the breast clinic, the patients was reported subjected to further breast examinations.
Krishna, who appeared via videolink, due to shielding for health reasons, denies 11 charges of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault.
