BANGOR 1876 Football Club recently received a £25k donation for a second year from local property investment company Watkin Property Ventures (WPV).
The ongoing support has funded a new junior team, trained coaches in essential football and non-football courses, such as First Aid, enabled the Club to purchase essential equipment, and helped fund other necessary costs.
The Club’s treasurer, Les Pegler, has said the money has significantly benefitted the players and the local community. He said: “The impact of WPV’s donations is huge. It has helped us ensure the Club can continue to be enjoyed by our players and for the community as they support our team. Our players show a real sense of team spirit and belonging to the area and are passionate about local football. Since receiving donations from WPV, our team has been promoted to Tier 2— the fourth promotion since 2019.
“We’ve also seen a positive impact from our junior team; the opportunity to play together has given many children more confidence and helped bring the community and families together. Although we are a fan-owned club run by supporters, donations like these go a long way to ensure the Club can still run and, more importantly, allow us to make a real difference for Bangor and its people. Our recent success would not have been possible without Mark and Susan’s generous support for this year and since 2019.”
Always keen to support projects that benefit the local community and to recognise sport’s positive impact on mental health, Mark Watkin-Jones, Chief Executive of Watkin Property Ventures, added: “We are delighted that we can support Bangor 1876 Football Club again this year through our Community Fund scheme. Not only is this great for the community, but it also allows local people and children to get involved in the sport from an early age, whether by playing or watching; it brings people together and helps get them active and out and about.
“Being born and raised in the Bangor area, I feel proud to be able to give back to the community. I look forward to hearing more positive stories from the Club”.
