TOMORROW (Saturday, November 2) the Cam wrth Gam Awards Ceremony will be held in The Great Hall on the Aberystwyth University campus (SY23 SDE) at 11.00am. The ceremony will reward and celebrate the achievements and hard work of students who have completed their Level 3 Childcare, Play, Learning and Development or Level 5 Leadership and Management of Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development courses as well as students who have qualified in the ‘Being Outdoors’ course.
As a national organisation recognised as ‘the early years specialists’ throughout Wales and beyond, ensuring a qualified workforce to work in the early years has been one of Mudiad Meithrin’s strategic priorities since its inception.
To meet the training needs of staff in the Cylchoedd Meithrin we established the Cam wrth Gam National Training Scheme which is a national training scheme offering world-class childcare training and qualifications to staff on the ground, and this year we are celebrating an important milestone as the scheme reaches its twentieth birthday.
Since it began in 2004 over 4,500 people have gained a recognised early years qualification through the scheme, contributing to the creation of a qualified workforce to work in the Cylchoedd Meithrin and day nurseries across Wales.
Helen Williams, Mudiad Meithrin’s Head of Training, Learning and Development Team said: “This scheme is vitally important to ensure a sufficient and consistent number of people working within the Welsh-medium childcare and early years sector.
“The expertise of our team means that we as an organisation can deliver everything related to the qualification.”
To undertake the scheme, students must be employed in a suitable setting; for example, a Cylch Meithrin or Welsh-medium day nursery. Students on the course learn through day-to-day experience with young children, and support from the experienced, supportive and friendly team of tutors and assessors throughout the learning journey.
Helen added: “We create original resources to support lthe earning, hold frequent practical workshops and provide language support for those who want to achieve proficiency – and learners also benefit from Mudiad Meithrin’s Academi training, which contributes to their continuous professional development.
“The quality of delivery is high, with the Mudiad possessing direct claims status for certain elements of the qualifications – this means that we have received exceptional external verification reports.”
The Awards Ceremony tomorrow will be an opportunity to celebrate all the achievements along the way and an opportunity for former members of staff who worked on the scheme to come together to celebrate and reminisce.
