COUNCIL Leader, Councillor Gary Pritchard and Chief Executive, Dylan J Williams have thanked residents, staff, contractors, and volunteers for their response to Storm Darragh.
They have also asked Anglesey residents to remain patient as the Storm Darragh clean-up continues.
Numerous roads remain closed after exceptionally strong winds brought more than 40 trees down across the length and breadth of the Island on Saturday (December 7).
Some of the trees felled by the storm were huge and others brought power lines down with them, meaning that the clean-up will be complex and take days to complete.
Given the more favourable weather, much of the clean-up began yesterday (Sunday, December 8).
Cllr Pritchard said: “We are indebted to our emergency services, Council staff, our contractors Alun Griffiths (with support from Nant Tree Services, RPO Williams, R. Mills and Sunbelt contractors) and partners for their work to keep us safe during Storm Darragh.
“I would also like to thank the volunteers, including local farmers, residents, and communities, who have helped clear the roads over the past 24 hours. However, I would urge them to not put themselves in danger.”
“The work is far from over, of course, and I’d kindly ask Anglesey residents to be patient with us as the clean-up gets underway proper today. Our Highways teams will be working hard to try to reopen roads affected as soon as possible over the coming days.”
He added, “However, their resources are stretched, and they will have to prioritise reopening roads in terms of their importance and safety.”
Anglesey Council Chief Executive, Dylan J Williams, added: “The Met Office still has yellow weather warnings for wind impacting Anglesey and other parts of Wales today. Thank you to all staff across our essential services – social services, housing, property, and highways, who have worked tirelessly today to support our elderly and vulnerable residents”
“I thank all residents for their understanding and patience and ask them to stay safe and to continue to follow guidance provided by emergency services as these severe weather conditions subside.”
