Conwy County Borough Council’s Fostering Team is one of 22 local authorities working together as Foster Wales, a national network of not-for-profit fostering services.
Foster Wales believe in working together, sharing knowledge and building futures for children – together.
Cllr Elizabeth Roberts, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Safeguarding said: “We encourage people to foster with their local authority. Foster Wales Conwy is a part of Foster Wales, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the children in our care.
“The Foster Wales Conwy team have a wealth of knowledge including social workers who work together with families and schools to build better futures for local children.
“By fostering with your local authority, you’re helping local children stay in their community. To possibly have familiar surroundings, accent, school, language, friends and activities to keep them connected, build stability and confidence.
“Building better futures for local children is what matters most.”
Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered
by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network. Running from Monday 15 – Sunday 28 May 2023, the theme this year is #FosteringCommunities.
Foster Wales Conwy is celebrating the difference foster carers have made to children’s lives in Conwy County.
Conwy’s Chief Executive, Rhun ap Gareth said: “It takes a very special person to be a foster carer. Foster carers make a profound difference to a child’s life by providing a secure and nurturing environment in which a child can develop and thrive. It’s such an important but also rewarding job, making a child feel safe and valued.
“Thank you to every foster family for all you do every single day.”
Each local authority are responsible for all children who need foster care. Looking after and protecting children and young people is one of the most important jobs that councils do. When a child, for whatever reason, can’t safely stay at home, it is up to the local authority to step in and give them the care, support and stability that they deserve.
Head of Foster Wales, Alastair Cope, said: “As the need for foster carers continues to grow, we need our community in Wales to step up.
“We know that when children stay connected, stay local and have someone to stick by them for the long term, we see better outcomes.”
This Foster Care Fortnight Foster Wales Conwy want to encourage more people to become foster carers for their local authority. This year Foster Wales are covering 10 reasons to foster with your local authority, so that children can remain in their local area, close to their friends and family and remain in their local schools.
Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children in Wales. With the greatest need being for older children, sibling groups and children with disabilities.
