THE WELSH Mountain Zoo was granted permission for a new visitor information centre.
The zoo in Upper Colwyn Bay applied to Conwy’s planning department, seeking permission for a change of use of an existing sweet shop to a visitor information centre.
The plans include the construction of a replacement sweet shop and covered outdoor amenity/activity facility on the site of the former snow leopard enclosure, as well as stepped and ramped access.
Councillors discussed the plans for the zoo on the Old Highway at a planning committee meeting this week at Bodlondeb.
Cllr Alan Hunter proposed councillors went with planning officers’ recommendation to back the plans.

He said: “It’s good to see a couple of things come forward from the zoo, moving on and replacing old structures with new, so I’m happy to propose.”
Cllr Nia Owen seconded the proposal, and councillors voted in favour of the plans.
