Denbighshire school unveils its new look as pupils return

DENBEIGHSHIRE primary school Ysgol Bryn Clwyd unveiled a new look as children returned after the summer holidays.

The school, which is located in the rural village of Llandyrnog, near Denbigh, has been transformed over the past few months with a fresh layout.

Headteacher Ben Lindquist, who recently shaved his head and ran the Caernarfon half marathon to raise funds for poorly pupil Aiden Jones, said: “It’s been great to welcome all the children back to school this term and to show them the changes that we’ve made over the holidays.

“We’ve had a big classroom restructure and changed the whole ethos and flow of the building. We created one big classroom by knocking down an existing wall between the current classroom and a library space.

“We want our children to feel nurtured in calm and spacious environments with access to outdoor learning opportunities all day. Our goal is to help our children to make memories that inspire a lifelong love of learning within engaging and supportive environments.

“It’s a very exciting time and the feedback from our dedicated staff, pupils and parents has been extremely positive. A huge thank you to Denbighshire County Council who supported the restructure by recognising the need, due to an increasing amount of pupils attending the school.

“And thank you to all the staff of Ysgol Bryn Clwyd and Little Acorns pre-nursery for their dedication over the summer holidays in making sure the school was ready to welcome pupils back.”

Ben ran his first half-marathon this month to raise money for Aiden, a pupil at the school, who is receiving treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

He said: “We are a very close knit school and I wanted to do something to help Aiden and his family. It’s the first time I’ve run a half-marathon and I trained for it as much as possible after school. I really enjoyed the experience and plan to have another go in the near future.”

Ysgol Bryn Clywd, which has 57 pupils aged between 3 and 11 as well as a pre-nursey unit, is working hard to preserve the Welsh language and teaches a large portion of lessons in Welsh as well as English.
