DENBIGHSHIRE Council’s leader said the local authority was “working hard” on getting a cinema “back up and running” in Rhyl.
The Vue cinema in the town closed earlier this month after the company decided not to renew the building’s lease with the authority.
The cinema’s closure follows the loss of the town’s SeaQuarium, which is currently being demolished by the council.
During a meeting of the council on Tuesday, leader Cllr Jason McLellan was asked by backbencher Cllr Will Price about the future of the cinema building on Rhyl’s seafront.
Cllr McLellan said the authority was working hard to find a new cinema operator to lease the building, which he said was an “important” site in the town.
“We are working with cinema specialists on getting the cinema re-let on its use now as a cinema,” he said.
“Officers are working collaboratively with a strategic approach to this important building, an important site there in Rhyl.
“Rhyl Members, the MAG (member action group), the town council, the Rhyl town board, the MS, the MP have been updated regularly, and I can assure you that again any developments, we’ll keep you informed.”
He added: “This is important. VUE Cinemas, I’ve seen some great films there over the years.
“It’s important to Rhyl that we keep a cinema, so we are working hard on it, and I can give you a guarantee I’m on this, and I’m really interested to get this cinema back up and running.”
