DENBIGH could soon have a brand-new health centre and GP practice, with hundreds of staff based at the building.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning department, seeking permission for the development.

The health board wants to convert Denbighshire’s council offices at Caledfryn on Smithfield Road.

The Caledfryn offices were purpose-built for the-then fledgling authority over 25 years ago, but the council confirmed it was moving staff out of the building in June last year, following a review of its property portfolio.

Council staff have been moved to Russell House in Rhyl or County Hall in Ruthin.

According to the planning application, the health centre could bring 250 full-time NHS staff to the town, boosting footfall.

If the development gets the go-ahead, the office accommodation will see the building transformed into a GP practice, with midwifery, mental health, and learning disability services, which are proposed for the ground floor.

The health board’s office accommodation and administration would be located on the first and second floors.

The proposed operating hours for the building are 8am till 6pm, Monday to Friday, with limited hours of operation over the weekend for district nurses, with parking.

The plans will likely be considered at a future planning committee meeting at Denbighshire’s Ruthin County Hall HQ.
