PLANS to transform a former MOT centre in Connah’s Quay into an Indian restaurant have been approved.
Flintshire planning officers have signed off a proposal to turn the former Connah’s Quay MOT and Auto Centre at Quay Shopping Centre on Ffordd Llanarth into a 17-table restaurant.
The plans were submitted by planning consultants D2 Planning on behalf of an unnamed restauranteur.
“The building has remained vacant for some time now and it appears it is not attractive to current commercial investors for retail uses,” said the officers’ report.
“The proposal will bring it back into use, adding vitality to the location. If the building remains unoccupied it will detract visually from the area at this important juncture.”
The 185.8 square-metre dine-in restaurant will feature a full kitchen and a lounge/reception area. It has been vacant for three years since Connah’s Quay MOT and Auto Centre moved out.
A previous dine-in Indian restaurant at the Quay Shopping Centre closed down last summer.
Since these plans were submitted to Flintshire County Council, Connah’s Quay residents on Facebook have been speculating whether this heralds the return of Quay Fine Dining.
Despite its popularity – it had a 4.5 star Tripadvisor rating – Quay Fine Dining closed down last summer having struggled to recover after a fire in 2023.
