SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has expressed disappointment after a bus company axed a route in his region.
From this week Arrive Bus company has announced changes to the Mold to Ellesmere Port services.
Mr Rowlands said: “I am really disappointed with this decision which is bound to have an impact on school journeys operating between Mold Alun and Garden City.
“It will also see the termination of a cross border service which will affect all those who use this route whether travelling to work or school on both sides of the border.
“I am really concerned that yet again local services that people rely on are going to suffer due to local government cuts.”
On the Arriva website it states that from Sunday January 26, due to a change in the Flintshire County Council contract, the Mold to Ellesmere Port service will be revised to operate between Mold and Queensferry only and re-numbered F5.
The section of route between Queensferry and Ellesmere Port will be withdrawn, with school journeys operating between Mold Alun and Garden City. This change is being implemented to reduce the costs of operating the service.
Customers travelling between Garden City and Mold would need to catch service 10 running up to every 15 minutes and change onto the 5 at Queensferry Asda.
At the same time the current fares have also been reviewed and a new set of fares will be in operation.
The route specific 5 adult and child day and week tickets will be withdrawn and the relevant ticket zone will be the Arriva Chester Plus, Arriva Wales or multi operator 1 Bws ticket depending on the journey.
To partially mitigate this change a return fare between Garden City / Queensferry and Mold will be introduced at £2.70 for children and £4.40 for adults.
