THE MENAI Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre, based at Mosaic Church, Bangor, wants to help local people celebrate Mother’s Day on 30 March 2025 without breaking the bank.
Ruth Godding, who runs the Menai CAP Debt Centre, said: “Mother’s Day is a chance for lots of people to say a special thank you to those who raised us.
“No matter how old we get, our mums – and other women who have been a maternal figure in our lives – mean so much to us. Perhaps you want to celebrate the mother of your children. It’s a pleasure to be able to do something to say thank you for all they do.
“The cost of Mother’s Day can add up so we want to suggest some simple, inexpensive ways to make your mum or partner feel loved and appreciated.”
Breakfast in bed
“It’s a classic for a reason! This gesture never gets old. We’d all welcome some extra time in bed, with a nicely presented breakfast to boot.”
Cook dinner
“Why not cook your mum or partner, and the rest of the family, her favourite meal? Allow her to put her feet up while you’re busy in the kitchen.”
Write a letter
“How often do you tell your mum or partner how much she means to you, especially in writing? This Mother’s Day, take some time to write a letter, or even a poem, telling her how much you love and appreciate her. What has she done for you this year that you’re grateful for?”
A family outing
“Quality time is one of the most meaningful gifts we can give. Get your wider family together for a walk around a local park or beauty spot. You could even take a picnic and make an afternoon of it.”
Movie night
“Grab some popcorn and treat your mum or partner to her favourite film. If it’s one you’d rather not watch then be ready to make the sacrifice – this will show that you appreciate the sacrifices she’s made for you over the years.”
Create a photo book
“Collate some special memories by putting together a collection of family photographs for your mum or partner to keep and cherish. You could even leave space at the end so that she can add more in the future.”
Create a video reel
“A moving version of the last tip! Gather video footage of fond memories you have had as a family. Use a free app on your phone to edit them together into a nice montage to share with your mum or partner.”
Ask her!
“Ask your mum or partner how she would like to spend Mother’s Day. Is there a place she’d like to visit or something you could do to help her out? If money is tight, be honest and open about it so that you can bless her in a way that works for both of you.”
Ruth added: “These ideas are just some fun ways to celebrate amazing mums this Mother’s Day. We know, however, that a lot of mums and their families in North Wast Wales are struggling financially. As prices continue to rise, it can be hard to make ends meet.
“If you or someone you know is struggling with unmanageable debt, free help and support is available through Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and we urge people to get in touch as soon as possible.”
