THE OWNER of one of Wales’ leading country house hotels and estates completed a notable treble when three of his racehorses raced to victory last week.
Entrepreneur Anthony Cooper-Barney, owner of the five star Palé Hall at Llandderfel, near Bala, owns four racehorses which are trained by Nicky Henderson.
The successful run of results began on Tuesday when Jingko Blue was a 11/4 winner by nine and a half lengthsin the Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase atUttoxer with jockey Nico de Boinville in the saddle.
Next up was De Tellers Fortune, an 8/1 winner by a neck in the Kirker Holidays Novices’ Handicap Chase at Taunton on Thursday with James Bowen on board.
The hat-trick was completed when de Boinville rode Jango Baie to a six-and-half-lengths victory at odds of 7/4 in the SSS Super Alloys Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham on Friday.
Jango Baie beat the much fancied Caldwell Potter, owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, into third place.
Anthony, whose passions include horseracing, luxury cars and art collecting, said: “It was a fantastic week of racing and just a shame that I didn’t put my money on the treble”
He and his wife, Donna, purchased Palé Hall earlier this year after falling in love with the country house hotel and surrounding area.
Palé Hall became one of the first hotels in the UK to receive a Michelin Key Award, which recognises the property as “a special place to stay”, earlier this year and also won Condé Nast Traveller 2024 Readers’ Choice Award.
The luxury hotel, situated in the Dee Valley, on the edge of the beautiful Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, is also an AA Five Red Star, Relais & Chateaux destination luxury country house hotel, with an acclaimed AA three-rosette and Michelin Green Star fine dining restaurant.
