Holyhead residents turn out for regeneration drop-in event

LOCALS turned out at a community event held at Holyhead Market Hall recently, eager to learn about the town’s regeneration projects. The event gave residents and local stakeholders the chance to find out more about the plans aimed at revitalising Holyhead town centre.

Representatives from the project partners were on hand to explain key aspects of the work which will begin on Stanley Street over the next few weeks. They include improvements to local infrastructure, public spaces and empty buildings. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas, and provide feedback on how these changes will affect the community.

Leader of the Isle of Anglesey County Council, Gary Pritchard said: “The regeneration of Holyhead is not just about physical improvements, but about creating a thriving town for the whole community. We are committed to ensuring that these changes will not only enhance the town’s appeal for visitors but also deliver long-term benefits for residents. By working closely with our partners and listening to local voices, we’re building a future for Holyhead that everyone can be proud of.”

As well as the main exhibition in the Market Hall, attendees were invited to call at the old HSBC bank building which has been closed since 2021. Plans for the building include developing tourist accommodation, a restaurant and tap room for a local brewery.

The project is as part of a wider regeneration programme for Holyhead delivered by partners – the Isle of Anglesey County Council, Holyhead Town Council, Môn CF, the Diocese of Bangor, and Canolfan Ucheldre. It has been funded through the Holyhead Regeneration Programme by the UK Government (formerly the Levelling Up Fund).
