Longer delays expected at Conwy and Llandudno Junction

LONGER delays can be expected at Conwy and Llandudno Junction after the council installed a third set of traffic lights at the Weekly News roundabout.

Last month, a second phase of roadworks began between the flyover roundabout and Conwy.

The refurbishment work will repair and maintain the bridge’s waterproofing, movement joints, and drainage.

The roadworks are the second and final phase of the work.

Phase two is set to run until July 20 with traffic running contra flow on one lane.

But this morning, Conwy introduced a third set of temporary traffic lights on the A546 opposite Lidl, slowing traffic further.

Bus stop Z on the stretch is consequently closed and a temporary bus stop is now 40 metres beyond the mini-roundabout on Glan-y-Mor Road towards Llandudno.

The council says it waited until the spring/summer as dry weather is needed to carry out the work.

But motorists travelling to work this morning were unhappy with the delays.

“The queues were even slower this morning,” said Louise Evans from Conwy.

“It is frustrating having to leave earlier and earlier for work, but what can you do?”

A spokeswoman for Conwy County Council commented: “We’ve moved to the next stage of the refurbishment work, which requires different traffic management.

“There are now sequenced traffic lights on the entrances to the Weekly News roundabout for vehicles travelling from Deganwy (New Road) and Llandudno Junction (Ferndale Road), as well as the lights already installed to manage traffic across the single lane on the flyover to and from Conwy.”
