North Wales police precept set to increase

THE COST of funding North Wales Police is set to increase for council taxpayers in all six councils.

Next week the North Wales Police and Crime Panel will consider a report and discuss increasing the police precept.

The report includes a review of the police’s financial position, according to the Crime Commissioner for North Wales Andy Dunbobbin, making recommendations for the 2025/26 precept and council tax.

The panel are recommending that they agree to increase the precept to £114,338,455, which would mean band D properties would pay £372.15 a year to the police, rising from £349.65 – an increase of 6.44% or £22.50.

This amount will then be added to council tax bills which will be set by all six North Wales councils in February when the budgets are set for 2025/26.

In the report, Mr Dunbobbin has highlighted several areas as police priorities. These include serious and organised crime, rural and wildlife crime, road safety, and anti-social behaviour.

He has also pledged to support victims, communities, and businesses, highlighting violence against women and girls and retail, cyber, and hate crime as areas to be targeted.

Other priorities include ‘responsiveness’, modern slavery, human trafficking, and organised immigration crime.

In the report, the crime commissioner claims North Wales Police has made £6.1m savings over the last two years.

The precept for each billing area will be:
