Sam Rowlands MS calls for people to check their electoral registration details

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, urges constituents to make sure they have the chance to vote in elections.

Mr Rowlands is backing a call from Wrexham County Borough Council who are currently updating their electoral register.

He said: “As most people know I am very passionate about making sure residents have their say on local issues and it is vitally important you have the opportunity to vote for your representatives.

“Wrexham council is currently carrying out its annual canvass so now is the time to check your registration details to make sure you do not miss out.

“If you are not registered then you will be unable to vote so I would urge residents, particularly those who have moved house,  to make sure they are signed up.”

Ian Bancroft, Returning Officer at Wrexham Council, said: “Keep an eye out for important updates from Wrexham Council on here and our social media pages. The annual canvass is our way of making sure that the information on the electoral register for every address is accurate and up to date. To make sure you don’t lose your say at any upcoming elections in Wales, simply follow the instructions sent to you.

“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the updates we send. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.”

Recent home movers in particular are urged to check their details, as they are less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time. In Wales, 95% of those who have lived in their home for 16 years will be registered, compared with 53% of people who have lived at an address for less than two years.

Information on registering to vote is available on the Electoral Commission website.

If you have any questions about your registration status, you can email the electoral services team at [email protected].
