SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging his constituents to share their views for the future of the culture sector in Wales.
Mr Rowlands, Chair of the Senedd’s Cross-Party Group on Tourism wants people to take part in a Welsh Government consultation to help provide a vision for the future.
He said: “As everybody knows I am always keen to promote the different types of attractions we have to offer visitors here in my region of North Wales and continuing to promote our culture is part of that.
“Many tourists are attracted to North Wales because of our heritage and events like the National Eisteddfod, which is being held in Wrexham in 2025 and the Royal Welsh Show, in Mid-Wales, are just two ways we celebrate our wonderful culture.
“It really is great to see local people and visitors coming together at these major events which really helps to promote our country and I would urge anyone who has any views for the future to take part in the consultation before it closes next month.”
The draft Priorities for Culture focus on three main priorities:
- Bringing people together through culture
- Promoting Wales as a nation of culture
- Ensuring the culture sector is resilient and sustainable
These three priorities are supported by twenty draft ambitions which include culture being accessible to everyone in Wales, building relationships at home and abroad through culture and helping the sector to prosper now and in the future.
The draft priorities apply to the entire culture sector in Wales, from national organisations to grassroots projects.
The consultation is also relevant to all public sector organisations who are required to deliver the Well-being of Future Generations Act’s goal of ‘A Wales of Vibrant Culture and Thriving Welsh Language.’
The Priorities for Culture: 2024-2030 consultation will close on Wednesday, September 4
