SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is urging residents to back plans to revert 20mph roads back to 30 in Wrexham.
Mr Rowlands, a long-time critic of the introduction of the 20mph default speed limit, which was introduced in September 2023, is calling on his constituents to support Wrexham Council’s new consultation to remove 20mph from main roads across Wrexham.
He said: “Everybody knows how I feel about this nonsensical and crazy law which made many of our roads 20mph when almost all of them quite clearly could remain at 30.
“Almost half a million people in Wales signed a petition against this implementation, however, this was totally ignored by Welsh Government and they pressed ahead.
“The whole exercise has been a complete and utter shambles from the beginning and the money spent on this ill-advised and quite frankly bonkers idea, should have been spent on our NHS, education and local government services.

“Recently released figures from the BBC show that more than 85.000 drivers were caught driving at over 20mph in Wales with two roads in North East Wales in the top 5.
“This continued campaign against motorists is nothing short of scandalous and the sooner steps are taken to redress the balance the better.
“People in Wrexham now have the chance to have their say on this issue and try to undo the damage this ludicrous idea is continuing to cause for my constituents in North Wales.
“I have recently completed and expressed my support for Wrexham Council’s new consultation to remove 20mph from main roads across Wrexham and I urge everyone to do the same.”
Anyone who wants to show their support should email [email protected] with the names of the roads by January 31st.
