SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, supports views of his constituents in North Wales.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Health Minister and a harsh critic of many of Welsh Government’s policies recently asked people in Wrexham and Flintshire to take part in his online North Wales Transport Survey.
He said: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in my survey and I must admit I was not at all surprised with the responses.
“By far the biggest bone of contention was still the default 20mph speed limit, with 88% of people calling for it to be scrapped.
“The new law is still extremely unpopular with the Welsh Government passing the buck as usual and saying local councils will now decide what roads should be 20mph.
“This ludicrous and bonkers idea is still causing major headaches for motorists and the money funding the roll out of this new legislation could have been better spent elsewhere.
“In the survey almost 74% of people did not support the Welsh Government’s plans to restrict road building with over 70% very dissatisfied with the road maintenance in their area.
“The Welsh Labour Government continues to bury its head in the sand when it comes to new road building, improving train services and public transport in North Wales and the responses I received show that people across North Wales are unhappy with the situation.
“We don’t have the luxury of decent transport systems in North Wales with often trains and buses being cancelled or delayed without any notice leaving people with no choice but to drive a car to work.”
Mr Rowlands’ survey included questions about what type of public transport people use and how satisfied they are with rail and bus services in North Wales.
There was also a section for comments asking the public what they would do to improve public transport.
