SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is backing a call for motorists to be mindful when parking on pavements.
Mr Rowlands was commenting after hearing about an appeal to residents in Wrexham and surrounding villages urging people to be considerate when parking their vehicles.
He said: “I welcome this reminder from North Wales Police, as we all know the problems parking on pavements can cause, especially for the elderly, people with disabilities, wheelchair users and those pushing prams.
“Some people are perhaps not aware that it is against the law to cause an obstruction to pedestrians and doing so may result in a fine being issued by police.
“I would urge motorists to abide by the law and to be considerate of others when parking their vehicles.”
North Wales Police Community Support Officer, Enya Bellis-Jones from the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Wrexham Rural has put out an alert reminding residents in her area to be considerate when parking.
She is reminding motorists that anyone found to be parking in a manner which causes an obstruction or difficulty for other road users as drivers, riders or pedestrians may find themselves receiving a fine through the post.
She is urging people to be considerate and when parking, think about the impact on others and leave enough space for pedestrians to pass safely.
She added: “Park responsibly to help keep our streets safe and accessible for everyone.”
