SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling on his constituents to take up an invite to have a look behind the scenes at police headquarters in Colwyn Bay.
North Wales Police are holding an open day to commemorate the Force’s 50th anniversary, on Saturday 14th September and inviting the public to come along to learn about the work they do across the region.
Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the police said: “As a keen and long-time supporter of the police and the valuable work they carry out, I am happy to support such a worthwhile event and congratulate them on reaching such an important milestone.
“The event promises to offer plenty of things on the day to keep all the family occupied. This will be a wonderful opportunity to find out more about the work they carry out every day to keep us all safe.
“It is a great chance to show our support for North Wales Police and take a peek behind the scenes where the public are not normally allowed.”
The doors to Police Headquarters in Colwyn Bay will open to the public once again later this month for a unique look behind the scenes of North Wales Police.
To commemorate the Force’s 50th anniversary, the public are invited to come along on Saturday September 14 when visitors will get the opportunity to meet some of their police dogs, speak to local officers and even find out how you could join North Wales Police.
There will be an opportunity to sit in a police car and on a police motorbike, meet the Underwater Search Team, visit the Training Department in the gymnasium, visit the Fallback Control Room and learn more about how the 999 calls are dealt with, see how the Forensic Collision Investigation Team operate, meet the Drone Team and see the latest drone technology and learn about the work of the Fleet Department who manage all the force vehicles.
A special exhibition will be held in one of the conference rooms to mark the 50th anniversary which will include equipment, old uniform, photographs and stories from years gone by.
The free event will start at 10:30am and run until 4pm and is open to all ages.
Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman said: “This year we’re celebrating five decades of dedicated service to our communities, so the Open Day is a perfect way to commemorate this milestone.
“The key to successful policing is strong links and support from the community, and events such as this help to achieve this.
“The Open Day promises to be fun and enjoyable for visitors of all ages and gives us the opportunity to provide visitors with an insight into the work of the Force and to raise awareness of ongoing initiatives.”
A number of external exhibitors will also be there on the day, including other emergency services including the RNLI, Coastguard and Mountain Rescue Teams.
