Sam Rowlands MS supports search to find a national dairy stockperson champion

SAM ROWLANDS MS for North Wales is calling on farmers in his Region to apply to become the NFU Cymru and NFU Mutual Dairy Stockperson of the Year.

He said: “As a keen supporter of Welsh farmers I always welcome any opportunity to highlight all the hard work they do to keep the nation fed as I think it is vitally important to recognise their contribution.

“We all know that Wales produces some of the best quality beef and lamb in the world especially our dairy stockpersons who do so much for the Welsh dairy industry. I think it is great to see those who look after our cattle and sheep receiving recognition for their skills.

“I would urge any producers in my region of North Wales to enter the competition or nominate someone they know for this prestigious award.”

NFU Cymru and NFU Mutual are looking for the 11th winner of the Welsh Dairy Stockperson of the Year Award to spotlight dedicated, committed and enthusiastic livestock persons from all across Wales. The award winner will receive a £500 and a Welsh slate engraved cheese board.

Jonathan Wilkinson, NFU Cymru Dairy Board Chairman, who will be judging on behalf of the union, said: “As a dairy farmer, I am very passionate about the agricultural industry and championing those individuals who go the extra mile to ensure they have happy, healthy cows is important.

“The award aims to recognise the key role that a good dairy stockperson plays in a successful dairy enterprise and the Welsh dairy industry as a whole. Potential award winners will be judged on their care and management of the herd, the breeding programme, their handling skills, their involvement in the dairy enterprise and their knowledge of the dairy industry in Wales.”

The closing date for entries is Friday September 27 and the winner will be announced at this year’s Welsh Dairy Show at the United Counties Showground, Carmarthen, on Tuesday October 22, 2024.

For more information regarding the award please visit the NFU Cymru website where you can complete an application form. Alternatively, you can email [email protected] or call the NFU Cymru office on 01982 554200.
