SAM Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, welcomes plans to improve the Connah’s Quay Dock area.
Mr Rowlands was commenting after Flintshire County Council announced its Regeneration Team has secured £290,000 from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund for this work.
He said: “I am pleased to hear about the plans to improve the Dock Road area in Connah’s Quay which has become a neglected space and desperately in need of investment.
“I was concerned to hear that this particular area accounts for 75% of all reported crime in this town and delighted that works will now be carried out to make this place safer and more appealing.
“The scheme is part of a wider investment programme across towns in Flintshire and I am happy to support improvements which will benefit local residents and in the future encourage more visitors.”
Work is now underway in the Dock Road area to improve lighting, install CCTV cameras and make environmental improvements.
For a long time, the Dock Road area of Connah’s Quay has been a concern for the council and police. A seemingly neglected area, plagued by fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles/boats, Dock Road accounts for 75% of all reported crime in Connah’s Quay and is very much a priority target area for a range of council partners and organisations.
The funds required to implement the identified improvement works necessary were not available and the Dock Road area remained in desperate need of investment and improvement.
The aim of the investment, to be delivered through the new project at Connah’s Quay Docks, is that it will positively impact the area by improving the safety of the Dock Road and help to reduce the fear of crime and make the area feel safer for local people.
