Funding available for Wrexham organisations to offer warm spaces for residents

Organisations in Wrexham which can provide a warm space for residents this winter are being encouraged to apply for funding ahead of the closing date on January 9. ‌‌

So far 22 local organisations have been awarded grants to open as a warm space and the second round of grant funding is now open. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

Groups and organisations can apply for £1,000 to offer a warm space to our residents to run alongside their current activities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

The money can be used to offset a range of costs – for example, energy costs, activity costs, materials needed or staffing costs. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

Warm hubs are being created in response to the rising cost-of-living, which has made this winter even more difficult for those already struggling. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

The spaces provide local residents with the opportunity to stay warm, take part in activities, get advice and perhaps have a hot drink and food. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

Cllr David A Bithell, Chair of the cross party Cost of Living Group, said, “Many people are struggling to make ends meet and as we face the colder weather warm spaces will be appreciated by residents in the coming months as somewhere welcoming to go to. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌

“If you are a group or organisation in Wrexham please consider applying for the grant to make life a little easier for people in your community.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌
