Local car dealership shows support for Wrexham Foodbank with £1000 donation

A new and used car and van dealership has shown its support for the Wrexham Foodbank with a £1,000 donation

As part of it’s 2022 charity work the Swansway Motor Group, which operates the Wrexham Volkswagen and Volkswagen Van Centre, has aimed to support families and children who are in need, along with those who have been heavily impacted by the cost-of-living crisis

Working closely with Wrexham Foodbank on Ruabon Road, Puleston Industrial Estate, Swansway has made a donation of £1000 to the foodbank.

Wrexham Foodbank first launched in 2012, founded by local churches and community groups, with an aim to work together and stop hunger within the local area.

Since then, the Wrexham foodbank has grown to include eight foodbank centres within the Wrexham area.

Figures released in November revealed that between April and September of this year 4,305 parcels were handed out to residents in need of emergency food.

This is an increase on the 3,072 in the same six month period last year and a sharp rise on the 1,781 six years ago in 2017.

Of those 1,562 were children and 2,743 were adults.

The Trussell Trust, which supports more than 1,300 food bank centres, says the cost of living emergency has created a ‘tsunami of need’, as people struggle to survive amidst the soaring costs of living.

Genni Williams, Operations Manager at Wrexham Foodbank said: “Wrexham Foodbank is working to tackle food poverty and hunger, supporting families and individuals in our local communities.

“Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in need in the past few months as the cost of living crisis deepens.

“We are so grateful to our supporters who donate both food items and financially. We simply could not do what we do without your generosity.

“We are working together towards a future where nobody needs to use a foodbank.”

Swansway Motor Group Director David Smyth added: “As part of our ongoing charity efforts, it’s crucial to us all at Swansway Motor Group that we do our best to support families in need.

“Our hope is that this donation can play a part in easing some of the uncertainty the coming months may bring to local families and provide a helping hand to the fantastic organisations who provide this service.”
