WREXHAM co-owner Ryan Reynolds has once again emphasised the importance of health screenings after a recent reminder of his own life-saving experience during a colonoscopy. The Hollywood star underwent the procedure two years ago as part of a playful bet with fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney, linked to learning Welsh. However, what began as a light-hearted challenge turned into a potentially life-saving moment.
During the procedure, doctors discovered a benign polyp, a small growth of tissue that can sometimes lead to cancer if left untreated. Reynolds was informed that the detection was “potentially lifesaving.” McElhenney, also taking part in the screening, had three polyps removed. The entire experience was captured on camera, sparking a surge in fans seeking colonoscopy screenings.
Now, two years later, Reynolds is once again urging people to get screened. Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, he shared a light-hearted message: “Friendly/loving reminder: colonoscopies save lives. And you can make it fun: As they start to put you under, try pointing at the ceiling, then whisper, ‘Such warm light. Grand-papa? Is that you?’ Then pass out. It’s a fun way to really scare the **** out of the anaesthesiologist.”
Reynolds and McElhenney, who have brought global attention to Wrexham, continue to enjoy success with the football club. Wrexham are currently top of League One, having secured five wins from their first seven games this season. Their campaign continues with a trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
Reynolds’ humorous yet serious message underlines the importance of early detection, demonstrating how even a routine procedure can make all the difference.
