Sam Rowlands MS expresses continued concern over the controversial 20mph default speed limit

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, says the public are still not happy as the ridiculous policy continues to impact on people’s lives and the economy.

Mr Rowlands, a harsh critic of the new default 20mph speed limit, was commenting after it was revealed that a consultation by Wrexham County Borough Council showed overwhelming public support for changing roads back to 30mph.

He said: “Quite clearly the public are still not happy with the Welsh Government’s default speed limit and it is high time they took notice of the electorate.

“The depth of feeling against this bonkers idea is immense and it is a real shame that local people and businesses continue to suffer for a Welsh Government vanity project which was ill thought out and quite frankly ridiculous.

“Almost half a million people signed a petition against the new default speed limit, the largest number ever to sign a Senedd petition and yet it still went ahead.

“It really is a crazy waste of money first with its implementation and now reversing some of the decisions. These funds should have been spent where needed on the NHS, education and public services.”

Yesterday (Tuesday February 11) Wrexham council considered a public consultation report which shows people in Wrexham overwhelming support all 52 roads that the council recommended to return to 30mph.
