THE WREXHAM Lager Beer Co, the oldest lager brewery in the UK, is now available in the US for the first time in its history.
The multi-award-winning brewer has launched in Total Wines & More — the US’s largest independent retailer of alcohol— which will see The Wrexham Lager Beer Co feature in 276 stores across 29 states. Total Wine & More will initially stock Wrexham Lager (4% ABV) in 16oz four pack cans.
The US expansion, which has been long in the making, follows the more recent announcement of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds as new co-owners of the company alongside the Roberts family, back in October.
The latest deal marks a significant milestone for the brand as it continues its initial phase of international expansion. James Wright, CEO of The Wrexham Lager Beer Co, said: “To secure our first listing in the US with a retailer of this magnitude and across as many states as we have is extremely positive.
“We’ve been in conversation with Total Wine & More since early 2024 and this gives us great penetration in the US from the start of our rollout in that market.
“The team at Total Wine & More really believe in the quality of the product and its ability to appeal to local consumers thanks to its taste and moderate ABV. We’re confident we can be the first British lager to really build a long-term and successful presence in the US.”
The 29 states to sell Wrexham Lager include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The launch in the US follows other international expansion this year into Australia and Scandinavia, with Canada coming up in the first quarter of 2025.
Wrexham Lager Beer Co currently produces the award-winning 4% ABV Wrexham Lager, 5% ABV Wrexham Lager Export, and recently introduced 4.6% ABV Pilsener. The 4% Wrexham Lager is produced using an original recipe from 140 years ago that was once available in the world-famous Harrods luxury department store in London, as well as chosen as the only lager to be served on the White Star Line’s Titanic.
