Former Legal Aid Lawyer is Welsh Labour’s Senedd Candidate in Vale of Clwyd

COMMUNITY campaigner and former legal aid lawyer, Jason McLellan, has been selected as Welsh Labour’s Senedd candidate for Vale of Clwyd.

Jason McLellan was born and grew up in Prestatyn and continues to live in the town.  He worked as a legal aid lawyer for two decades where he helped ensure access to justice for some of the most vulnerable people in the community.

Jason has served as a councillor on Denbighshire County Council and has worked for the local MP and Member of the Senedd prior to his selection.

Sitting Member of the Senedd, Ann Jones, announced in January that she would not seek re-election.

Commenting on his selection, Welsh Labour candidate for Vale of Clwyd, Jason McLellan said: “I’m delighted to have been selected by local members to be their Welsh Labour Senedd candidate for Vale of Clwyd, the community that has been my home.

“I pay tribute to Ann Jones’ 22 years of service on behalf of the people of this constituency and I hope to follow in her footsteps as a fierce advocate for our communities.

“Having spent my career helping people in difficult situations, I know what it takes to stand up for people. I will continue speaking up for constituents in the Vale of Clwyd and take their concerns straight to ministers in the Welsh Government.

“I am proud to be part of a Welsh Labour team that has worked with NHS staff, armed forces and volunteers to get people vaccinated, and are helping Welsh businesses, with the most generous support anywhere in the UK – including extending the small business rates holiday for a further 12 months.

“In these most difficult times, Mark Drakeford and Welsh Labour have been cautious, careful and straight-talking. With your support, we will create a greener country with a confident, prosperous future, here in the Vale of Clwyd. Together, we will keep moving Wales forward.”
