SCHOOLS throughout Bridgend County Borough are commending the hard work of both staff and pupils following A-Level results day (15 August).
There have been many individual achievements and successes with many students achieving a place at their first-choice university, while others will be embarking on different journeys such as entering the world of work, beginning an apprenticeship, or going to college to continue studying.
This year’s results in Wales have been awarded in line with pre-pandemic arrangements and over 32,000 A level grades have been awarded throughout Wales as a whole.
Amongst the success stories in Bridgend County Borough are Porthcawl Comprehensive School student Illia Zhurovak, from Ukraine, who is off to Oxford University to read Mathematics and Computing, as well as Caitlin Fallow of Cynffig Comprehensive School who will make the journey to Cambridge University to study Psychological and Behavioural Sciences.
Mr Ravi Pawar, Headteacher at Bryntirion Comprehensive School, said: “We are so pleased that most learners who have applied for places at university have secured their first-choice course.
“They will now be undertaking undergraduate courses in a diverse range of subjects including Midwifery, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Film Production, Physics, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Astrophysics, Architecture, Geology, Law, History, Accountancy, Education, Veterinary Science, Engineering, to name just a few.
“These A and AS level results represent many hours of hard work and dedication from students, staff and families, so we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to everyone associated with these superb accomplishments.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Lauren Mackie, Deputy Headteacher at Brynteg School, added: “Our students at Brynteg School have excelled in their A Level, AS and BTEC results today and we are so, so proud of them all.
“They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time with us and their achievements reflect their commitment, drive and motivation to succeed – particularly when you factor in the disruption these pupils had to their education during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Cllr Martyn Jones, Cabinet Member for Education and Youth Services, said: “I wish all of our A-Level Students in Bridgend County Borough the very best for the future and it’s fantastic to hear about their wide-ranging plans for the future.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to all teachers and support staff who continue to play such a key part in the educational development and journeys of our learners.”
