A PUBLIC exhibition event is set to take place in the beach-side town of Porthcawl next month in order to showcase long-running regeneration plans for the area.
The special event will take place between 9am and 7.30pm on Monday, February 3, at the Hi Tide Inn in Porthcawl, and will feature the publication of a new masterplan for the area, outlining how it will be developed and used in future years.
The Porthcawl Waterfront Regeneration Masterplan will highlight a number of planned changes for the well-known tourist destination, with proposals to alter parts of the seafront area as well as other sections of the town.
It will also see the launch of a dedicated website for the plans, alongside a series of public information boards that will be set up at key locations around Porthcawl.
The major regeneration scheme lead by Bridgend council could eventually include changes to both roads and layouts, as well the creation of about 900 new homes, a school, and a road system through Griffin Park.
Other plans could include a new multi-story car park based in the current Hillsboro car park as well as the development of a 200m-long seafront park that runs the length of Salt Lake adjacent to the eastern esplanade.
It will also see the closure of the town’s Coney Beach Pleasure Park, which has been in a feature in the town for over 100 years, with the land earmarked as part of the development.
A council spokesperson said: “Developed jointly between Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government, the exhibition has been organised as part of an overall three-week consultation.
“Residents, business owners and visitors will be asked to consider a series of preferred options for how the area could be developed with a mix of new facilities, retail opportunities, green public space and housing to benefit as many people as possible in future.”
