Staff work through night to keep county borough moving

The roof was blown off a building in Park Street, Bridgend

Bridgend County Borough Council staff worked throughout the night to deal with damage caused by strong winds.

Highways crews dealt with fallen trees in a number of areas across the county borough, as well as a roof that was blown off a building and onto the road in Park Street, Bridgend. Trees were cleared from:

  • Rhiw Las, Brackla
  • New Inn Road, Merthyr Mawr
  • A4229 South Cornelly Bypass
  • Coychurch Road/Fairoak Chase, Brackla
  • A4106 (A48 to three steps hill), Porthcawl
  • Mission Road, Garth, Maesteg
  • A48 Redhill roundabout
  • Penybont Road, Pencoed
  • A4064 Llangienor to Lluest, near Green Meadow Pub

They also dealt with a road traffic collision on the A4063 Tondu Road and a leaning pole on the A4061 Sarn to Aberkenfig Bypass.

Councillor Stuart Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Many thanks to staff who worked overnight to respond to so many incidents quickly in challenging conditions.

“All roads listed are open again but with some clearance work continuing today to remove some debris, so there may be some intermittent and temporary lane closures to enable this.

“High winds are forecast into this afternoon so we ask residents to take care while out and about.”
