Update to Covid-19 testing in Bridgend County Borough

BRIDGEND COUNTY BOROUGH residents can now book a coronavirus test if they’re feeling unwell, even if they don’t have any of the main symptoms.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has made the change as restrictions are eased so that any cases of Covid-19 can be detected as soon as possible.

If you have any of the three main symptoms – a high temperature, new continuous cough, or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, you must book a test as soon as possible and self-isolate at home until you get the result.

This includes people who have been vaccinated as they may still be able to pass the virus to others.

You can now also book a test if you feel unwell but don’t have one of the three main symptoms of coronavirus. Examples of other symptoms could include a sore throat, headache, nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting.

When you get tested for other symptoms, you don’t have to self-isolate while you wait for your result.

You will only have to self-isolate if your test comes back positive.

In Bridgend County Borough, a drive-through mobile testing facility is available daily at the site of the former Revlon/Cosi factory off Oakwood Drive in Maesteg (CF34 8TS), between 9am and 5pm.

A walk-through testing facility at the Bowls Hall car park of the Bridgend Life Centre (CF31 4AH) is available daily between 2pm and 8pm for people with symptoms.

Booking for both sites is essential and can be done by visiting the Welsh Government website or calling 119. If you have hearing or speech difficulties, you can call 18001119. You can also request a self-test kit to be carried out in your home.

Bridgend County Borough Council Leader Huw David said: “The earlier that cases are detected, the quicker that person can isolate and avoid spreading the virus to their family, friends, colleagues and other members of the community. This will allow restrictions to continue to be eased so life can return to normal.

“It is vital that residents continue to follow the rules on social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing face masks, and self-isolating and getting tested if they have any of the three main symptoms. This includes those who have already received a dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.”
