Cardiff Sixth Form College named Boarding School of the Year

CARDIFF Sixth Form College has been named Boarding School of the Year at the Independent Schools Association’s 2024 Awards.

This latest success follows another major achievement: Cardiff Sixth Form College was also recognised as the Independent School of the Year for International Student Experience at the 2024 Independent Schools of the Year Awards. Both accolades reflect the college’s commitment to creating a welcoming, world-class environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

All students are able to enjoy the benefits of boarding including before and after school activities, a fantastic range of food options, and participation in weekend and half term activities. The college remains open over half-terms and Easter, running ‘Enrichment Weeks’ which aim to broaden students’ local, national and international cultural understanding, whether this be to the local Big Pit National Coal Museum in South Wales or to Kathmandu.

The boarding experience is central to the Cardiff Sixth Form College’s identity. Of the 375 students, well over 300 are full boarders with up to 40 different nationalities represented.

Boarding enables students to share and celebrate their diversity. Students share their own cultural heritage through assemblies, where each week a student is invited to present on their own country, its culture and history, and international dining experiences are held where students are invited to set the menu for one evening, allowing their friends to sample the delights of Cambodian, Nigerian, Chinese or even Albanian cuisine.

Cardiff Sixth Form College, a member of the Dukes Education family, is already renowned for its excellent academic outcomes and first-class pastoral care. The college has been the top performing school for A-levels in the UK for over a decade and this year 91% of A-level grades were A*-A. As a result, roughly 80% of all CSFC graduates gain access a university ranked in the QS Top 100 world rankings.

Tom Arrand, Principal of Cardiff Sixth Form College said: “This prestigious achievement honours the commitment and dedication of all of our boarding staff, who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure our boarders are superbly cared for and supported.

“It also reflects the wider culture of this vibrant community, which sets high standards and where the atmosphere is one of respect and a shared love of learning.

“Finally, it recognises the incredible achievements and efforts of the wonderful students, who make the school what it is.”
