Large fire sends smoke across Cardiff

Plumes of smoke were seen billowing in the Splott area of Cardiff earlier today as fire crews rushed to attend a fire on Martin Road. The incident occurred around 11:15 am on Friday, February 24.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke rising from a building on Martin Road, prompting emergency services to quickly respond. The fire appears to have been extinguished, and firefighters are now in the process of investigating the cause of the blaze.

One person who was close to the fire reported that their “whole flat smells of smoke.” There are no reports of any injuries or fatalities at this time.

Andrew Parker, a local resident, captured the scene on video and shared it on Twitter. The footage showed firefighters tackling the blaze.

A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue said: “At approximately 11:15am on Friday 24 February 2023, we received reports of a fire on Martin Road in Splott, Cardiff. Crews from Cardiff Central and Ely Fire and Rescue Stations are currently in attendance. This incident is currently ongoing.”
