Victim, 40, pronounced dead at the scene as police launch murder investigation

POLICE have now confirmed that a woman has died and a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a shooting in Talbot Green on Sunday evening (Mar 10).

South Wales Police confirmed that officers were called to the Green Park area at 6:10pm following reports of a shooting. Emergency services, including Welsh Ambulance Service paramedics, attended the scene.

A 40-year-old woman was found suffering serious injuries.

Sadly, despite efforts from emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 42-year-old man from Talbot Green has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

Road closures and crime scenes remain in place

A major police investigation is now underway, with multiple crime scenes cordoned off in the area. South Wales Police confirmed that road closures remain in place as forensic teams gather evidence.

Detective Chief Inspector James Morris told Herald.Wales: “I understand the concern this will cause the local community, and I want to reassure people that a team of experienced detectives are already working at pace to piece together the events of last night.”

Calls for calm as police monitor speculation

South Wales Police have issued a statement urging the public to avoid speculation and wait for verified updates.

“We appreciate the public’s concern but ask people to refrain from sharing unverified information online. Updates will be provided as appropriate.”

The warning comes after social media posts about the incident began circulating, with some users making unfounded claims about the nature of the incident. Police have reminded residents that spreading misinformation can hinder investigations.

Councillors and MP urge vigilance

Local councillors and MP Alex Davies-Jones have responded to public concerns, with Ms Davies-Jones stating:
“I urge everyone to follow police advice and avoid unnecessary speculation. The best thing we can do is allow law enforcement to do their job.”

Councillor Sarah Jane Davies, who represents Llantrisant and Talbot Green, also commented:
“Following a concerning increase in incidents, I will be meeting with South Wales Police and RCT Council to discuss ongoing community safety issues. I encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any concerns directly to the authorities.”
