Poets and musicians perform at St David’s Day concert to mark Christian Aid’s 80th anniversary

LLANDAFF Cathedral is hosting a St David’s Day concert as part of the 80th anniversary of international development agency Christian Aid.

The event takes place on Saturday, March 1 – from 7.30-9.30pm.

Bishop Mary Stallard said: “It’s a joy to be welcoming everyone to the Cathedral to mark the beginning of the 80th anniversary year of Christian Aid.

“For 80 years the organisation has been fighting global poverty and injustice as well as offering hope to communities who need it most. It’s a pleasure to welcome Christian Aid’s Chief Executive, Patrick Watt, along with the many people who are going to be entertaining us.

“The concert is also an opportunity to support some of these communities by donating to Christian Aid during the interval or as people leave.”

Former Archbishop Dr Rowan Williams has written a poem which will be read out and fellow poets Angela Graham and Sion Aled Owen are performing, while Tongwynlais Temperance Band and Côr Caerdydd will be providing music and children from Llandaff City Primary School will be reading poems they have written.

Head of Christian Aid Cymru, Mari McNeill, said: “We’re hoping lots of people will join us for this St David’s Day concert. For 80 years, Wales’ churches and communities have been doing the small things.

“Together, in the small and big things, we witness the unstoppable power of hope towards a world free from the injustice of poverty.”

Tickets are free, with an opportunity to make a donation to Christian Aid on the evening. You can reserve your seat by clicking here.
