Pride Cymru’s exciting plans for this summer

PRIDE CYMRU, Wales’ largest Pride festival and grassroots LGBTQ+ charity has announced its exciting plans for the 2023 summer season, including moving to its iconic new home, Cardiff Castle. Taking place during Pride month on 17 & 18 June, the mile long parade and two day festival will once again take over Cardiff city centre with celebration and campaigning for greater equality front and centre.
Headlining the Principality Building Society Main Stage on Saturday: Sophie Ellis Bextor, a DJ set from Jodie Harsh, House Gospel Choir, Youngr and July Jones.

On Sunday, headliners include: Claire Richards, The Feeling, Marisha Wallace and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars, Ginny Lemon and Black Peppa.

Chair of Pride Cymru, Gian Molinu told The Herald: “We’re back with a brand new venue, a brand new date and brand new ideas to make this Pride season the best ever. I am so excited to see the Castle transformed for the weekend.

“We have a new partnership with S4C for our community stage and we are pledging to put on the most diverse programme possible to make sure everyone feels represented. Our new headline main stage sponsor is the iconic Welsh brand known to people right across the country, the Principality Building Society.

“Our volunteer team is hard at work planning an ambitious two day programme with our parade and full event weekend of entertainment set to take over Cardiff’s most visible landmark, Cardiff Castle. So many people don’t realise that Pride is a volunteer led organisation with members of the community right across Wales working on putting together Wales’ biggest celebration of love, tolerance and inclusion.

“We know people are struggling with the ever increasing cost of living. We’re pleased to have been able to freeze ticket prices this year”.
Pride Cymru has been an annual and ever growing event since the first Cardiff Mardi Gras, held back in 1999. Over 50,000 people interacted with Pride Cymru in 2022, generating an estimated £1.2million in economic activity in Cardiff over the course of the weekend.
The event starts with a mile long parade, setting off from Castle Street and working its way through the busiest parts of the city centre.
Alongside twenty hours of entertainment on the Main Stage in the Castle, dedicated family and youth areas provide a great day out of activity and entertainment for the entire family in the Castle Mews. The Family Area is kindly sponsored by EE and the Youth Area is sponsored by Admiral Insurance.

The markets area provides information from a wide range of organisations and great items from LGBTQ+ small businesses to buy.
Pride Cymru is a volunteer-led charity that works to promote the elimination of discrimination be it on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or ability. We are committed  to campaigning for equality and acceptance of diversity within our communities. Pride Cymru recognises and celebrates the contributions made by LGBTQ+ people in society and we continue our work to create opportunities for LGBTQ+ people around Wales to connect and support each other. Alongside the famous annual event, Pride Cymru runs a number of projects aimed at promoting community cohesion and campaigning for a more equal society.

Tickets are now available via the Pride Cymru website. Market stalls are sold out but applications for organisations to join the parade are still open.
