EARLY this morning, at approximately 4:14 a.m., South Wales Fire and Rescue Service disseminated information via X, previously known as Twitter, confirming their response to a property fire on Commercial Street in the city.
Their message cautioned: “Emergency Services are actively managing a property fire on Commercial Street, Newport. We advise residents to secure windows and doors.”
Concurrently, Gwent Police have announced four road closures in Newport, inclusive of Commercial Street. At about 3:40 a.m. today, they relayed a statement through their X page, declaring the closure of Palmyra Place, Commercial Street, Ivor Street, and Hill Street.
