A brazen burglar jailed after breaking through door with axe

IN JANUARY 2022, Scott Cook used an axe to smash through the door of a couple in their 60s.

Scott Cook broke into a Talbot Green home in January 2022, using an axe to smash through the door.

The owners, a couple in their 60s, had just left their home to go out for the evening.

Once inside, the 44-year-old left a trail of destruction – causing thousands of pounds worth of damage and loss. He ransacked every room, breaking cabinets and drawers along the way.

He stole cash, valuable and sentimental items from the couple’s 48-year marriage.

Cook’s DNA was found on the axe he left at the scene and on a jewellery box in the home.

He was arrested, charged and remanded into custody.

Last week, appearing at Merthyr Crown Court, Cook was sentenced to one year and six months behind bars for his crimes.

Detective Constable Harri Andrews, who led the case, said: “Scott Cook caused a huge amount of damage and destruction when he smashed his way into the home of a couple.

“His actions caused great stress and anxiety to his victims, who have been significantly impacted by his crimes.

“We will continue to work hard to put prolific thieves before the court and I hope another burglar behind bars reassures residents across the force area.”
